ECO-BAG-IT Project
The Tanzanian Government has introduced an outright ban on disposable plastic bags of a thickness between 30 and 65 microns.
This is a very drastic measure the Government has enforced in order to protect our rapidly degrading environment.
- Well over a billion single-use plastic bags are given out for free each day.
- Plastic Bags are mass produced and offer less employment opportunities than naturally woven products.
- Plastic bag pollution is a threat to our ecosystems locally, nationally and
internationally.
- Thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food, choking or blocking
their intestines, leading to an agonizing death.
- On land, many cows, goats and other animals suffer a similar fate to marine life when they accidentally ingest
plastic bags while foraging for food.
- It takes hundreds of years for 1 plastic bag to degrade. As litter, they breakdown
into tiny bits, contaminating our soil and water.
ARE YOU HELPING TO SAVE OUR ENVIRONMENT?
Make a statement every time you go shopping with eco friendly shopping bags from MAKUTANO.
All of our bags are made from strong natural fibers. Each bag will last for years, so you shouldn't need to use plastic again. When your bag reaches old age, it will decompose easily with no long term negative effect on the environment.
You will find Makutano eco friendly bags all over town in supermarkets, at the dukas and in the shops. This project also aims to enhance the income for the local basket makers and tailors.
Help support your Government, local artisan's and the environment NOW!
